Let me introduce myself

I am Caleb Tolin and I am a digital strategist from Durham, North Carolina. I work in the digital space focusing on social media marketing, digital advertising, influencer marketing, content development, copywriting, editing, and some graphic design. I attended East Carolina University with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a Bachelor of Science in Interpersonal and Organizational Communication where I graduated Magna Cum Laude.

I am currently the Digital Influencer Specialist on the corporate social media team at Nutanix, a leader in enterprise-grade software for IT infrastructure known more commonly as hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI). Day to day, I develop and execute social media and influencer marketing strategy via demand generation, thought leadership, and other corporate initiatives.

Since the beginning of my tenure at Nutanix, engagements increased by 86%, and conversions by 17% QoQ through compelling messaging, strategic targeting, and amplification. I have also participated in webinars as a subject matter expert in social media reporting with the social media management tool, Sprout Social.

Before my role at Nutanix in Durham, I spent my last two semesters of school online and in the D.C. area interning at the Media Research Center and IMGE, a digital marketing agency. At IMGE, I was a digital marketing intern who worked with political campaigns, advocacy organizations, and corporations on content marketing, marketing automation, reporting, and more. This is where I really got a good taste of what it was like to be a digital professional, and to this day, I just can’t get enough!

In my role at the Media Research Center’s MRCTV division, I focused on editorial blogs where we covered media bias, political phenomenon, social movements, and more. This focused on a longer form content and the subject matter was not my favorite, but I was able to learn how to write to a target audience and write in a clear, concise way. MRCTV is where the majority of my longer form content lives, but I have also been featured in Townhall.com, the IMGE Journal, and the American Conservation Coalition blog. You can find my entire published portfolio here.

In college, I was originally a Musical Theatre major with a desire to take movie musicals by storm. During this time, I had the opportunity to study abroad in the UK where I got to study the culture, art, and history of the nation. My favorite part was when our group crossed the Atlantic on the Queen Mary 2. Spending 8 days on the luxury vessel was an experience like no other and I’m looking forward to going again in the near future.

After a few years as a Musical Theatre major, I made the decision to switch majors to Political Science and Communication. While at ECU, I was able to organize and manage large scale events, work to improve how the university handles the nation-wide drug epidemic, and participate in several political and non-political organizations in communication and marketing roles.

One of the greatest opportunities I’ve had has been to volunteer for the American Conservation Coalition; a grassroots organization with a mission to get young people involved in the environmental movement and offer market solutions to the issues our planet faces. At ACC, I have been able to learn new skills such as business development and project management.

I have organized national events by bringing in partnering foundations for funding and promotion. Clean Up America was a project I developed that was field-based activism aiming to help clean up natural lands across the United States. I also have worked heavily on the 30 Under 30: The Green Generation event which highlights and promotes some of the most influential and innovative environmental pioneers in the country.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending my time hiking, trying new wines, or jamming out to Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (my, my how can I resist ya?). I spend a lot of my time helping the American Conservation Coalition form and grow relationships with foundations/corporations, develop and organize internal and external operations, and plan events. Like I said, this has been one of the most rewarding opportunities I have had the pleasure of taking and continue to support in any way I can.
